Neston is a small English town. From above, it shows a pattern that has built up over centuries: a few older lanes meeting at a central crossing, a tighter cluster of buildings around them, and twentieth-century residential streets curving outward. At the edges, the streets give way to fields, hedgerows and footpaths, the patchwork of rural England.
Like many English towns of its size, Neston combines the everyday life of a local centre, with shops, a church and schools, with the character of the countryside around it. The contrast between the irregular old core and the more regular later development is easy to see on a map and tells its own story of growth.
