Nguruka lies in the Kigoma region of western Tanzania, in the interior between the cities of Tabora and Kigoma, in a landscape of miombo woodland, farmland and seasonal wetlands. The settlement is spread out across open ground rather than concentrated in a tight centre, and from above it appears as a scattering of homes, plots and paths.
The main structure on the map is provided by a few roads and the tracks that branch from them to farms and neighbouring villages. Small fields surround the houses, with open woodland and grassland beyond. Streams and low, wet ground add softer lines to the landscape, especially in the rainy season when water spreads over the plain.
