Nkhotakota Map Poster & Print
Nkhotakota runs along the western shore of Lake Malawi in the Central Region. The lake is the dominant feature of any map of the town. The shoreline forms a long edge on one side of the frame, and the streets and lanes lie inland from it, spread along the coast instead of deep into the land.
The town has a long history as a lakeside trading centre. In the nineteenth century it was the base of the Jumbe rulers, and David Livingstone met the Jumbe here during his travels. Today the town is also known as the gateway to the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, which covers the hills to the west.
A Nkhotakota map poster is essentially a portrait of a shoreline. The lake shows as a broad field of white or colour against the finer lines of the town. That balance of settled land and open water makes the print feel spacious, and the history of the lakeshore adds weight to a fairly simple outline.
