Nohar is in Hanumangarh district, in the far north of Rajasthan, where the Thar desert meets the farmland of the plains. The town itself is a compact cluster of streets, with an older, denser centre and newer extensions along the main roads. Around it, the landscape is flat and open, divided by long straight tracks and field boundaries.
Farming here relies on irrigation, and canals have gradually brought more land under cultivation in this part of Rajasthan. On the map, the fields around Nohar form large rectangular blocks, while the railway runs through the town in a long, steady line. Villages appear as small clusters at intervals across the plain.
