Nootdorp lies just east of The Hague, in the low peat landscape of South Holland. It is now part of the municipality of Pijnacker-Nootdorp. On a map, the old village centre is a small, irregular cluster of streets, and newer residential districts spread out around it, planned along canals and water features that manage the level of the polder.
Water is everywhere in the layout. Ditches and canals follow the old field boundaries, and the Dobbeplas, a recreational lake with woods and paths, sits on the edge of town as a large, soft shape. The Ypenburg district of The Hague lies directly adjacent, and motorways and a tram line link Nootdorp to the city.
