Nyamuswa lies in Tanzania's Mara region, in the rolling country between the eastern shore of Lake Victoria and the plains of the Serengeti. On the map it looks like a loose cluster of roads and tracks rather than a dense town. Homesteads, small farms and footpaths spread gradually into the surrounding land.
The Mara region takes its name from the Mara River, which flows into Lake Victoria to the north. The land around Nyamuswa is largely agricultural. Seasonal streams and field boundaries add fine, irregular lines to the map. The main roads form the clear structure that holds the composition together.
