Obonoma is in Rivers State, in the lower Niger Delta, a landscape defined by creeks, tidal channels and wetland. On a map, the settlement is a cluster of streets and compounds on firmer ground, surrounded by water and green space. Roads are few, and they tend to follow the dry land, so the town's outline is irregular.
The wider Delta is a maze of waterways linking the Niger to the Atlantic, and communities here have long relied on the creeks for travel, fishing and trade. That setting gives Obonoma a very different map from an inland town, with the edges of the water mattering as much as the streets.
