Oshkosh lies on the western shore of Lake Winnebago, the largest inland lake in Wisconsin, at the point where the Fox River flows in from Lake Butte des Morts. The river divides the city into north and south halves, crossed by a series of bridges, while the lake forms a long, clean eastern edge to the map.
The streets follow the familiar Midwestern grid, bending where the river and shoreline demand. The city is home to a University of Wisconsin campus, the original OshKosh B'gosh clothing company, and Wittman Regional Airport, where the Experimental Aircraft Association holds its AirVenture fly-in each summer, drawing aviation enthusiasts from around the world.
