Palakollu lies in West Godavari district, on the flat, fertile delta of the Godavari river near the Bay of Bengal. The town's map is defined by water: irrigation canals cross the surrounding land in long, straight lines, and the streets of the centre are packed between them, forming a dense but compact urban area set in an almost level landscape.
Around the town, rice paddies, coconut groves and aquaculture ponds cover the delta, and on a map they appear as a fine pattern of field boundaries and water channels. Roads and canals run side by side, and villages are strung along them, giving the edges of the poster a gentle, repeating rhythm.
