Palāsa lies in Srikakulam district, near the northern end of Andhra Pradesh's coastline, and forms a twin town with neighbouring Kasibugga. From above, the urban area stretches along two strong transport lines, the main railway along India's east coast and the national highway, with dense neighbourhoods filling the space between and around them.
The town is known across India as a centre of the cashew industry, and processing units and warehouses are woven into its layout. Outside the built-up area the land is a mix of cashew plantations, paddy fields and villages, with the Bay of Bengal a short distance to the east. The map shows this as a soft, irregular texture of plots and tracks.
