Paripiranga lies in the northeast of Bahia, close to the border with Sergipe, in the semi-arid interior where the coastal humidity gives way to drier country. From above the town is compact. Its streets gather around a central core and thin out quickly into roads that head across the surrounding countryside, linking outlying communities that belong to the same municipality.
The street pattern is not a strict grid. Blocks bend and change direction as they follow the ground, and the result on a map is looser and more organic than a planned town. Main roads run out of the centre like spokes, and small clusters of houses sit along them before the open land takes over. It is a layout shaped over time by the terrain rather than drawn in one go.
