Parral Map Poster & Print
Parral is a town in the Maule Region of central Chile, on the long agricultural floor of the Central Valley. Its plan follows the Spanish colonial pattern: a regular grid of square blocks around a central plaza, with straight streets that end where the vineyards, rice fields and orchards begin. From above, the town looks orderly and almost geometric.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Pablo Neruda, who was born here in 1904 before his family moved south to Temuco. The poet later wrote about the rain and the land of the Chilean south, and Parral still keeps his name close. On the map, the modest grid gives little sign of that literary connection.
