Patía is a municipality in the south of Cauca Department, Colombia, with its main town at El Bordo. It lies in the valley of the Patía River, a deep, warm and relatively dry depression between the Western and Central Andes. Its climate is very different from the cooler highlands around Popayán to the north.
On a map the most prominent line is the Pan-American Highway, which runs through the valley and passes El Bordo on its way between Popayán and Pasto. The town's streets form a small grid along and beside the road. The surrounding land opens into pastures, ravines and slopes that climb toward the ranges on either side.
