Patzicía Map Poster & Print
Patzicía is in the department of Chimaltenango, in Guatemala's central highlands, west of the capital. It is mainly a Kaqchikel Maya town, and the surrounding land is farmed intensively. Vegetables grown here are shipped well beyond the region. From above, the town is compact and clearly ordered, with a grid of blocks that goes back to the colonial pattern of highland towns.
The grid is the main feature of the map. Streets meet at right angles around a central square and spread outward in even steps. Past the last blocks, the pattern gives way to fields divided into small plots, with ravines cutting through the high plateau. In black and white, the contrast between the regular town and the irregular countryside is sharp and attractive.
