Persianovka lies in Rostov Oblast, a short distance from Novocherkassk, on the open steppe of southern Russia. Its identity is tied closely to the Don State Agrarian University, which is based in the settlement, and the map reflects that. The campus buildings, research grounds and staff housing form a planned, orderly core.
Around the settlement, the steppe is divided into large agricultural fields, many of them used for teaching and research, separated by shelterbelts of trees that run in long straight lines.
