Pingjin Map Poster
Pingjin is in the Chongqing municipality in southwest China, in the hilly country of the Sichuan basin. On the map the terrain determines everything. Roads follow valley floors and wind around slopes, and the town's streets are packed onto whatever level ground is available instead of spreading in a regular grid.
Around the town, the hills are covered in terraced fields, small reservoirs and scattered farmsteads. Minor roads and paths climb the slopes in loops and switchbacks. From above, this landscape forms a delicate texture of curving lines very different from the straight-edged farmland of the northern plains.
