Pinjaur, also spelled Pinjore, lies in Haryana's Panchkula district, at the foot of the Shivalik hills, on the main route from Chandigarh toward Kalka and Shimla. The town stretches along this highway, and the ground rises gently to the north. On a map, a linear main road is lined by settlement, and hills and seasonal streams mark its edges.
The town is best known for the Pinjore Gardens, also called the Yadavindra Gardens, a terraced Mughal-style garden created in the seventeenth century. The garden descends in a series of levels, with water channels and fountains running along its central axis. It remains one of the most visited sites in the region.
