Poissy Map Poster & Print
Poissy sits on the left bank of the Seine in Yvelines, west of Paris, just beyond the forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The river defines the map. It sweeps past the town with long islands in its channel, and the old centre gathers near the water around the collegiate church of Notre-Dame. Newer neighbourhoods climb away from the river onto the plateau.
Poissy is the birthplace of Louis IX, the king later known as Saint Louis, and it is also home to the Villa Savoye, Le Corbusier's famous modernist house from the late 1920s. For much of the twentieth century the town was known for its large car factory, which occupies a substantial area beside the river.
A Poissy map poster shows these different eras side by side. The compact medieval streets, the broad river with its islands, the large industrial footprint and the dark mass of forest to the east each read clearly in monochrome. It is a layered, balanced composition for a town with more history than its size suggests.
