Prichard Map Poster & Print
Prichard lies just north of Mobile in southwest Alabama, and on a map the boundary between the two is almost invisible. Blocks of small residential streets run in overlapping grids. Rail corridors and highways slice through them on their way to the port, and creeks drain eastward across low ground toward the Mobile River and its industrial banks.
The city grew in the early twentieth century as a working-class suburb serving the shipyards, mills and railways of the Mobile area. Its population has fallen considerably since the mid-century peak, and the street pattern still reflects the larger town it once was. Wide residential districts, older commercial strips and interstate interchanges sit side by side.
A Prichard map poster shows a place defined by its connections: the rail lines, the highway and the water that links it to the Gulf. The shifting grids make an intricate pattern in black and white, broken by the curving lines of the creeks and the wooded low ground along them.

Winding creeks cross the city on their way east toward the Mobile River, adding soft curves and open green gaps to an otherwise dense residential map.

Rail corridors and Interstate 65 cut long, straight lines through the city, marking Prichard's role as a through-route between Mobile and the country to the north.
