Purranque is a town in Osorno Province, in the Los Lagos Region of southern Chile. It sits in the green agricultural country between the Pacific coastal range and the Andean lakes. The town is laid out as a tidy grid of blocks, and on the map that grid ends quickly, giving way to a patchwork of fields and farm roads.
Farming, and dairy farming in particular, defines this part of Chile, and the landscape around the town reflects it. Straight rural roads divide the pastures into large parcels, and small streams wind through the lowland. The main north–south transport routes of southern Chile run nearby and tie the town into the long spine of the country.
