Quixeré is in the east of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil, in the lower Jaguaribe valley near Limoeiro do Norte. The town sits in a region of dry backcountry where irrigation has changed the landscape. On a map the compact urban grid is surrounded by the geometric patterns of cultivated fields.
Nearby, the ground rises onto the Chapada do Apodi, a flat plateau that stretches toward the border with Rio Grande do Norte. Large irrigated farms, many growing fruit, have been established in the area. A Quixeré map poster shows the regular town blocks alongside the straight roads and plots of that agricultural land.
The contrast between the town's small grid and the wider grid of farmland is what makes the map interesting from above. Roads leave the centre in straight lines toward neighbouring towns and the plateau, and in black and white the whole composition reads as a study in ordered lines.
