Rāmgarh lies on the Chota Nagpur plateau in Jharkhand, between Ranchi and Hazaribagh. The Damodar River passes close to the town, and the land around it is uneven, with low hills, forest patches and wide open ground. The main highway runs through the centre, and much of the town has grown along it in a long, linear shape.
Coal defines the region. Mines and industrial sites surround Rāmgarh, and railway lines and haul roads connect them to the wider coalfield. The town is also home to a large army cantonment, the regimental centres of the Sikh and Punjab Regiments, whose ordered layout differs clearly from the looser civilian streets.
A Rāmgarh map poster shows these separate pieces together: the highway spine, the busy bazaar around it, the orderly cantonment blocks, and the broad curve of the Damodar. Beyond them, railway lines and scattered mining settlements give the edges of the map an open, varied texture.
