Rancharia lies in the western part of São Paulo state, in the Alta Sorocabana region, an agricultural landscape of gentle hills and wide fields. From above, the town is organised as a clear grid of rectangular blocks, typical of settlements in western São Paulo that developed alongside the railway in the twentieth century.
The railway line crosses the town and remains visible in the street plan, dividing the grid and influencing the orientation of the blocks. Around the urban area, the map shows large farms, rural roads and the small streams that feed into the regional rivers, with long, straight property boundaries.
