Rembau is a small town in Negeri Sembilan, on the west side of Peninsular Malaysia between Seremban and Melaka. On the map it appears as a modest cluster of streets along the main road. Village roads branch off into farmland, low forested hills and the scattered kampung settlements typical of the state's interior.
The area is closely associated with Adat Perpatih, the matrilineal customary law brought by Minangkabau settlers from Sumatra. Under this tradition, ancestral land passes down the female line, and Rembau is still regarded as one of its strongholds. The heritage also shows in local houses with the sweeping, curved roofs of Minangkabau design.
The North–South Expressway passes through the district, but the town keeps a slow, rural scale. A Rembau map poster reflects that: a small center, a web of narrow lanes, and wide areas of open land where fields and plantations fill the space between villages.
