Resplendor Map Poster & Print
Resplendor sits on the Rio Doce in the east of Minas Gerais, not far from the border with Espírito Santo. The river is broad here, and the town spreads along its bank in a long, narrow shape, squeezed between the water and the hills behind. From above, the streets run mostly parallel to the river, with shorter cross streets climbing inland.
The Vitória–Minas railway follows the Rio Doce through this valley, and it passes Resplendor too, tying the town to the ports on the coast and the mining country upstream. Nearby is the land of the Krenak people, whose history is closely connected to this stretch of the river. The valley setting and the lines of rail and water give the town its shape.
A Resplendor map poster shows the wide ribbon of the Rio Doce, the railway alongside it and the town's streets arranged between them. In black and white, the river becomes a strong band across the paper, and the town reads as a thin line of blocks on its bank. It is a very linear, very readable place.
