Ridgeland sits just north of Jackson in Madison County, Mississippi. On a map it is organised by a few long lines. Interstate 55 runs north to south along its western side, the Natchez Trace Parkway curves through the town, and to the east the Ross Barnett Reservoir opens into a large sheet of water.
Between those lines the town is a mix of commercial corridors and residential neighbourhoods with curving streets and cul-de-sacs, pieced together with wooded areas and creeks. The overall pattern is typical of a planned suburb, with long frontage roads by the highway and softer, looser streets behind them.
