Romeoville lies in Will County, Illinois, southwest of Chicago. Its eastern side follows the Des Plaines River, which runs parallel to the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal and the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. From above, these water lines form a strong edge, with quarries and wetlands along the valley and the town spreading west across the prairie.
The residential districts are mostly post-war and later suburban subdivisions, with curving streets and cul-de-sacs forming looping patterns on the map. Large industrial and logistics parks sit near the interstate, their buildings forming long rectangles. Lewis University occupies a campus on the southern side of town, adding a cluster of academic buildings and open lawns to the composition.
