Roquetas de Mar lies on the Mediterranean coast of Almería in southern Spain, on the Campo de Dalías plain. From above, the town stretches along a long coastline of beaches and resort areas, from Aguadulce in the north to the lagoons of Punta Entinas-Sabinar in the south. Inland, a dense patchwork of greenhouses covers the plain almost completely.
The town centre is around the fishing harbour, near the sixteenth-century Castillo de Santa Ana and an old lighthouse. The greenhouses of the area, often called the sea of plastic, make Almería one of Europe's largest producers of fruit and vegetables, and they are clearly visible even in satellite images.
A Roquetas de Mar map poster brings these different textures together.
