Rusera, often written Rosera, lies in Samastipur district in northern Bihar, on the flat alluvial plain north of the Ganges. The Burhi Gandak flows past the town, and on a map its looping course is the most expressive line in the area, bending through fields that stretch almost unbroken to the horizon.
The town itself is a dense, close-knit settlement where lanes gather toward market streets and the main roads leading out to surrounding villages. Rusera serves as a subdivisional centre, so roads converge here from many directions, and the resulting pattern of spokes reads clearly when rendered in simple black lines.
