Sakété is a town in the Plateau Department of south-eastern Benin, north of the coastal capital Porto-Novo and not far from the border with Nigeria. It sits on the gently rolling land that gives the department its name. The town grew as a local market and administrative centre for the surrounding farming communities.
From above, Sakété forms a loose, organic network. A few main roads carry traffic through town and out toward neighbouring settlements. Around them, smaller streets and tracks branch off irregularly, defining compounds and neighbourhoods rather than formal blocks. At the edges the built-up area fades into cultivated land, palm groves and scattered villages.
A Sakété map poster shows a pattern very different from a planned grid. Its lines are softer and more varied, following paths that developed over time around trade routes and family land.
