Sakleshpur lies in Karnataka's Hassan district, high in the Western Ghats, and the map shows it immediately. There are no straight grids here. The town centre is small, and the roads that leave it bend and switch back through a landscape of plantations, valleys and forested ridges.
The Hemavathi river flows past the town and adds a soft curve to the composition. The main highway between Bengaluru and the coast passes through Sakleshpur before descending the ghats. The railway towards Mangaluru also crosses these hills, a route known for its tunnels and bridges.
