Samtredia lies in the Imereti region of western Georgia, on the broad lowland that opens toward the Black Sea. Its map is organised around the railway: tracks arrive from several directions and meet here, and the town spreads out on both sides of them. Streets follow a largely regular layout across the flat ground.
The town is known in Georgia as an important railway junction, where lines toward the Black Sea ports branch from the main line running east. That role shaped its growth, and the wide band of rail yards remains one of the most visible features from above, dividing neighbourhoods and giving the plan its structure.
