Santa Isabel lies on the southern side of Mexicali in Baja California, just a short distance from the US border. The land here is extremely flat and dry, and the map reflects it: straight roads, rectangular blocks and few natural features breaking the pattern.
What makes the area different is the Mexicali Valley around it. Irrigation from the Colorado River system has turned the desert into farmland, so canals and drains run in long lines between fields. Housing fills a grid on one side, while the farms beyond divide the land into large squares.
