São Sebastião Map Poster & Print
São Sebastião is one of the administrative regions of Brazil's Federal District, southeast of the Plano Piloto. Its early growth is linked to the brick kilns that supplied building material to the new capital. It became an administrative region in its own right in 1993. From above, it looks quite unlike Lúcio Costa's famous winged plan.
The street pattern here is practical and dense: blocks of homes in rectangular sectors, with commercial strips along the main roads. Around this core lies open land of cerrado, hills and valleys. The edge where the built area stops and the savanna begins is clear on the map, and it gives the settlement a strong outline.
A São Sebastião map poster is a portrait of a real Brasília neighbourhood, not the monumental one on postcards. In black and white, the tightly packed blocks read as a dark, textured mass, set against the lighter countryside of the Federal District. The roads that link it toward Lake Paranoá and the capital run out from it like spokes.
