Sāqultah Map Poster & Print
Sāqultah is a town and district centre in Sohag Governorate, in the narrow band of farmland that follows the Nile through Upper Egypt. Here the cultivated valley is only a few kilometres wide, and the map shows it plainly: a dense cluster of streets and houses, a patchwork of small fields around it, and beyond that the abrupt, empty space where irrigation stops and the desert begins.
Irrigation canals are the defining lines of this landscape. They run roughly parallel to the river and feed a lattice of smaller channels between the fields, while villages sit close together along roads and embankments, so the settled land feels almost continuous from one town to the next. It is a pattern repeated along much of Upper Egypt, shaped by thousands of years of farming beside the Nile.
