Sarapāka lies in Bhadradri Kothagudem district in eastern Telangana, a short distance from the temple town of Bhadrachalam and the Godavari River. The town is closely associated with a large paper and paperboard mill, and much of its growth came from the industry and the housing built around it. From above, the mill complex forms a large, distinct block beside the residential areas.
The surrounding region is one of the greener parts of Telangana, with forests, hills and farmland along the Godavari valley. On a map, Sarapāka reads as a meeting of planned and unplanned growth.
