Schererville is in Lake County, in the northwest corner of Indiana, within the wider Chicago area. It calls itself the Crossroads of the Nation, because US Route 30, the historic Lincoln Highway, crosses US Route 41 here. On a map that intersection is the centre point, with commercial strips along both roads.
Around the crossroads, the town is mostly suburban housing. Curving streets, cul-de-sacs and ponds are set inside the larger grid of section-line roads that covers the Midwest. A Schererville map poster puts the straight main highways next to the looser, looping patterns of the residential areas.
