Schilde lies just east of Antwerp in the Belgian province of Antwerp, and it is one of the region's greenest municipalities. On a map, this is obvious at once. The built-up areas are spread out, not dense. Streets curve through woodland and around large gardens, and patches of forest and estate grounds fill much of the space between neighbourhoods.
The municipality includes the villages of Schilde and 's-Gravenwezel, each with its own centre. The area has long attracted people who work in Antwerp but want space and trees around them, and several historic estates and castles remain within the woods. Small streams and ponds run through the landscape and add water to the green patches.
A Schilde map poster is a study in lightness. There are few straight lines. Winding lanes and driveways reach into the woods, the two village centres are the only compact clusters and there is plenty of open space between them. It suits anyone who likes a map that feels calm and airy, not crowded.
