Scordia lies in the province of Catania, where the Hyblaean foothills descend toward the broad Plain of Catania. The town was largely rebuilt after the great earthquake of 1693, and its center reflects that: a fairly regular street plan with long straight axes, set on slightly sloping ground.
Around the town, the landscape is dominated by citrus. Scordia is in the heart of the area known for Sicilian blood oranges, and groves cover the surrounding land in a dense pattern of plots and farm tracks. A Scordia map poster frames the compact town within this carefully cultivated countryside.
Streams and small valleys cut the edges of the built-up area, and some roads climb in curves toward the hills to the south. The mix of planned streets, organic edges and agricultural texture makes a surprisingly rich composition for a town of this size.
