Selonnet lies in the valley of the Blanche in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, in the high country north of Digne. On a map the village is a small, compact group of streets beside the valley road. Fields cover the flatter ground around it, and forest climbs the slopes. The pattern is quiet and rural, shaped more by farming than by tourism.
Above the village, the small station of Chabanon offers family skiing in winter and walking in summer. This is where Provence meets the Alps, and the landscape shows it: meadows on the valley floor, larch woods higher up, and bare ridges above the tree line, under a drier sky than the northern resorts.
