Sheybān lies on the broad alluvial plain of Khuzestan, a short distance northeast of Ahvaz. From above, the land is almost perfectly flat. The town's streets form a fairly regular pattern of blocks, bounded by main roads and surrounded by open land. There are no hills to bend the streets, so straight lines and right angles dominate the map.
Khuzestan is one of Iran's hottest regions and one of its most important farming and industrial provinces. Rivers flowing down from the Zagros have watered its plain for thousands of years. Sheybān belongs to this setting, a small town in the orbit of the provincial capital, with fields, canals and roads defining its surroundings.
