Shrirampur is a town in Ahilyanagar district in western Maharashtra, in one of the state's main sugarcane regions. The land around it is flat, fertile Deccan plain, crossed by irrigation canals, and the local economy has long been tied to sugar cooperatives and the farms that supply them.
On a map the town is compact, with a denser commercial centre and residential areas spreading out from it along the main roads. A railway line passes nearby, and the region's canals cut straight lines across the countryside. Beyond the edge of town the pattern changes to farm tracks and field boundaries, and the whole frame has the steady, level feel of irrigated plain.
