Sidi Ifni sits on a plateau above the Atlantic, on Morocco's southwestern coast. From above, the town appears as a compact, orderly plan on high ground, with the ocean along its western edge and the land dropping steeply toward the beach and the harbour to the south.
The town was a Spanish enclave until 1969, and its central streets still show a planned layout with Art Deco buildings around squares and gardens. The coast nearby is known for red sandstone cliffs and arches at Legzira, one of which collapsed in 2016.
