Sindhnūr is a town in Raichur district in north-eastern Karnataka. From above it appears as a spreading grid of streets, markets and newer residential layouts in flat, open country, where the land is divided into large, regular fields. The main roads leave the town in several directions and link it with Raichur, Gangavathi and the surrounding villages.
Irrigation from the Tungabhadra project transformed the landscape around the town. Its canals turned dry land into productive paddy fields, and Sindhnūr became known as a centre of rice farming and milling in the region. On the map these canals and their branches appear as long, gently curving lines that cut across the grid of fields.
