Singida lies on the central plateau of Tanzania, roughly midway between the country's east and west. From above, the town spreads across fairly open, gently rolling ground. There are two small lakes nearby, Singidani and Kindai, and outcrops of large granite boulders rise here and there among the houses and fields.
The town is the capital of Singida Region and a stop on the main road linking the central corridor with the north and west of the country. It serves as a market centre for the surrounding farming communities, which grow crops such as sunflower and millet on the dry plateau.

Clusters of large granite boulders rise across the landscape around the town. Streets and houses work around them, which leaves irregular gaps in the pattern.
Trunk road
The main highway through central Tanzania passes through Singida. It forms the longest straight line on the map, and commercial activity gathers along it.
