Sinnar lies in Nashik district in Maharashtra, southeast of the city of Nashik, on the open, gently rolling land of the Deccan plateau. On a map the town appears as a compact older core surrounded by newer residential districts, industrial areas and a wide network of roads crossing agricultural land.
The town is known for the Gondeshwar temple, a stone temple from the Yadava period built in the Hemadpanti style, with a central shrine surrounded by four smaller ones. Its compact, symmetrical plan is one of the historic highlights of the region and a reminder of Sinnar's long past.
