Sinop Map Poster
Sinop is a young city by any measure. It was founded in the 1970s as a planned settlement in northern Mato Grosso, and its name comes from the acronym of the colonising company that laid it out. That origin shows on a map: the centre is a deliberate arrangement of wide, straight streets and regular blocks, drawn with a ruler rather than grown over centuries.
The city sits beside the BR-163 highway, the long north–south road that carries grain from the interior of Brazil toward northern ports. From above, the highway reads as a firm spine along the edge of town, with the urban grid set against it. East of the city the Teles Pires River winds through the landscape, and the land beyond the streets breaks into large rectangular fields and patches of remaining forest.
A Sinop map poster keeps only the lines: the tidy grid of the centre, the looser neighbourhoods added as the city grew, and the highway cutting past them.
