Syr Darya plain
The broad valley of the Syr Darya shapes the whole region. It gives a flat base on which the town and its fields are laid out with few natural interruptions.

Sirdaryo Map Poster & Print
Sirdaryo is in Uzbekistan's Sirdaryo Region, named after the Syr Darya, one of Central Asia's major rivers. The land here is very flat. From above, the town shows a fairly regular pattern of streets, and beyond it the countryside is divided into rectangular fields by irrigation canals and farm roads.
Much of this region belongs to the plain once called the Hunger Steppe, which was turned into farmland during the twentieth century through large irrigation projects. A Sirdaryo map poster brings out the resulting geometry. Straight canals, long field edges and roads laid out at right angles surround the settled area.
In a minimalist print, that order gives the image a calm, almost architectural feel. The river and its irrigated plain provide the context, and the town's grid sits in the middle as the densest part of a very regular landscape.

Irrigation geometry
Canals and field boundaries divide the land around Sirdaryo into long rectangles. From above, this pattern reads like a technical drawing.
Planned streets
The town's streets follow a mostly regular layout. It reflects planning on open land, not the slow growth of an older settlement.
