Temple tanks
Several water tanks lie within and around the town. On the map they form smooth, open spaces among the dense streets, a typical feature of Tamil Nadu towns.

Sivaganga Map Poster & Print
Sivaganga is the headquarters of Sivaganga district in southern Tamil Nadu, in the dry plains between Madurai and the coast. On the map, the town forms a compact core of streets, with roads leading out towards Madurai, Karaikudi and the surrounding villages. Water tanks, a traditional feature of this region, appear as open shapes among the blocks.
The town was the seat of the Sivaganga estate, and it is closely linked with Rani Velu Nachiyar. She is remembered as one of the first Indian rulers to fight against the British East India Company in the late eighteenth century. The Marudhu brothers, who also resisted colonial rule, are honoured throughout the district.
A Sivaganga map poster shows a town whose shape follows older patterns: streets around temples and tanks, with paths leading into the countryside. In black and white, the water bodies make pale shapes within the fine lines of the streets.

Compact core
The older centre is a close network of streets and lanes. It is the densest part of the map and the town's historic focus.
Roads outward
Main roads connect Sivaganga with Madurai and other towns in the region, creating clear lines that lead out across the rural plain.
