Sohna lies in Gurugram district, Haryana, where the low, rocky Aravalli hills rise from the plain south of the fast-growing Gurugram metropolitan area. The old town is a close-knit tangle of lanes against the hillside. Around it, new townships, wide arterial roads and residential projects are spreading across the surrounding land.
The town has long been known for its hot sulphur springs, which have drawn visitors for generations. The nearby Damdama Lake and the Aravalli ridges make the area a popular weekend destination from Delhi and Gurugram. The Sohna Road, linking the town to Gurugram, has become one of the region's main development corridors.
